BMW released their original C1 scooter in 2000, and nobody had seen anything like it on the road. In the three years that BMW produced the scooter-with-a-roll-cage, only about 12000 were made. Now BMW has brought the urban runabout back as the C1-E concept vehicle with an electric drivetrain.

The C1-E features an electric motor and components from the Vectrix scooter company, powered by a lithium-ion battery. Although Vectrix filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, new investors may resurrect the brand. No matter the outcome, BMW hopes the C1-E will demonstrate the viability of an electric powertrain in a safe, urban commuter vehicle.

The BMW C1-E is designed with an emphasis on rider protection with its front-to-back roll bar and energy-absorbing impact material in the nose. C1-E also features a seat-belt for the rider. According to BMW, the scooter is the only motorized single-track vehicle that is exempt from mandatory helmet wearing in almost all European countries

The C1-E design also provides for rider comfort and convenience. The roll cage has mounting points for both a windscreen and a roof to provide wind and weather protection. In addition, there is luggage space behind the rider.

BMW Motorrad developed the C1-E concept as part of the European safety project eSUM, which stands for European Safer Urban Motorcycling. eSUM is a cooperative project between major urban European motorcycling centers and motorcycle manufacturers. The goal of the project is to develop and demonstrate ways to take advantage of the benefits of two-wheeled transportation in easing traffic flow in urban locations, while also increasing the safety of motorcycles and scooters in the city.

The C1-E will remain a concept for now. BMW says that series production is currently not planned but that findings from the project will find their way into other future developments in the field of single-track vehicles.

With fossil fuel reserves depleting at a fast pace, industrial designers have put their bets on renewable sources of energy such as wind and solar that will be able to fuel the future generations. Auto designer Björn Wehrli believes that wind energy has all the credentials that high-speed cars of tomorrow need and has come up with a concept vehicle dubbed the Audi Makaon Speedsailor that uses this renewable form of energy to perfection.

Conceived for the year 2040, the vehicle features a two-seat layout that can be utilized by a driver and a sailor. The duo will have to work together to position the sail system perfectly to maximize energy efficiency. The seating compartment can be repositioned to balance the vehicle when strong winds try to tilt it.

The vehicle’s onboard systems are supplemented by a solar-powered airship that monitors the vehicle’s performance and assists the driver by relaying the track information. The sustainable drone is equipped with a camera and several sensors that can record the vehicle’s run and its overall performance.

Since the vehicle is designed to run on unconventional sources of fuel, the overall weight had to be minimized. The designer hopes to build the vehicle from lightweight but strong materials, while giving it an aerodynamic shape that minimizes drag and betters the efficiency of the vehicle.

The AIDA project is a personal robot that can help you to navigate, and the project was designed by Volkswagen of America and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The aim of this project is to bring an innovative driving experience.

They want to make a navigation system that mimics the friendly expertise of a driving companion who is familiar with both the driver and the city.

Instead of focusing solely on determining routes to a specified waypoint, our system utilizes analysis of driver behavior in order to identify the set of goals the driver would like to achieve. Furthermore, AIDA involves an understanding of the city beyond what can be seen through the windshield, incorporating information such as business and shopping districts, tourist and residential areas, as well as real-time event information and environmental conditions.

Functinalities that gather information about driver preferences additionally help AIDA to behave more intelligently. One mandatory task for AIDA is to predict the destination of the driver as well as the most likely route that he/she will follow. This will in turn allow for useful reactions from AIDA such as proposing route alternatives when something unexpected happens in the predicted route, or providing the right information at the right time (e.g. a fuel warning before passing by a gas station) or even helping save energy.

Vestige is car design proposal for Aston Martin with representative scarab wings, cooperatively driven by Fincato, Magrini and Bernardi, keeping the design similar with Khepri, the Egyptian God. The unique cutting edge outlook of the car will get added attention of people with its superb combination of sleek metallic white body along with black tinted roof along with windows. Besides, the extraordinary rims are another highlighted feature that is worth noticing during the first look. This concept vehicle comprises four electric motors and powerful Wankel engine with supercharging abilities. This supercar can house three passengers including the driver and ensures completely silent movement as a result of using silent electric motors.

Yamaha present on Tokio Motor Show a two-wheeled electric commuter machines. The idea of this project is to encourage more people to use two wheels vehicles in towns.

The project name is Yamaha EC-f and is a smart electric commuter bike based on the more staid-looking EC-03 commuter scooter.

The frame of EC-f is build from aluminum, and is powered by a lithium-ion battery driving a 0.6kWh electric motor. For a simple plug-in recharging, the charger is built into the frame.
